Abstract

In the beginning, God created male and female. While the man was the head, the woman was the helper, ensuring that duties were discharged accordingly. And when this happened, there was peaceful co-existence and sustainable development. Today, some men have decided to shy away from their responsibilities. The women are now carrying all the burden on their heads and yet, are being regarded as insignificant and treated badly; hence this paper aims to pin point some of the areas where these unfavourable treatments still exist. The possible causes are highlighted. It is found that these unfavourable treatments towards women hinder sustainable development. It is suggested among others that women should be regarded as being significant and be given every opportunity in all areas of life to bring out their best for sustainable development.
